Preparing for Shipment and New Firmware Features

by Ali Slim

It’s been several weeks since the last update, and I’m happy to announce that WiCAN is packed and ready, but there’s a slight logistical delay with shipping to Mouser. We are working on resolving the issue as soon as possible. I will post another update when the shipment is underway. Thanks to all of you for your patience, I know you’re excited to get started using WiCAN.

In the past weeks, I’ve been working on adding some extra features to the firmware, and I also designed an automated tool for Functional testing. This batch yield was 100%.

New Firmware Features

The latest firmware version now supports MQTT protocol - The JSON message format is available on GitHub. I will post an example soon on how to use it with Home Assistants.

I’ve also added support for the OBDII protocol (ELM327) over BLE, and I’ve been using it with RealDash on my car. The performance so far is great, I haven’t had any issues. There are still some improvements to be made with ELM327 emulation, like Multi PID request, which is a bit complex to implement but will greatly improve the responsiveness.
