New Firmware & GUI Release

IQ Motion Control is excited to announce the release of new firmware for our speed and position modules (now called Vertiq 2306 2200KV and Vertiq 2306 220KV, respectively). IQ works hard to continuously improve the functionality and usability of its firmware, which is the code that runs on the microcontroller inside our motor modules. IQ currently has three versions of firmware: speed, servo and step/direction. We have released the latest firmwares on our website’s support page, as well as the individual product pages. Rise Time as a Measure of Responsiveness

Rise time is generally defined as the time taken to go from 10% to 90% of a commanded value. In propulsion systems, the most relevant measurement is the rise time of thrust. In our tests we measure the rise time of the thrust from 1 N to 4 N because most drones using 2306-sized motors will have a hovering thrust in this range. Read the full update.

Motor Commutation Comparison: FOC vs. FEC

Once the motor is designed, there is still one primary factor that determines the quality of the motor: the motor commutation. Commutation is the moving of the magnetic field generated by the coils of a motor. As the rotor spins the magnetic field must spin with it in order to continue producing torque. Prop Efficiency

There are 3 primary factors that determine a propulsion system’s efficiency: the mechanical efficiency of the motor, the electrical efficiency of the motor controller (ESC), and the propeller’s figure of merit, which is a function of a prop’s speed and lift-to-drag ratio. Read the full update.

Design Confirmation

We have exciting news! As of November 1st, we have confirmed the design for the production motors. Due to our yield rate issue as described in the previous update, Matt traveled to our motor manufacturer’s office in China to figure out how to make these motors more reliable. Read the full update.

Increasing Yield Rate

In the sample run described in our last update, we had a yield rate of about 70%. We fixed several problems from our previous generations, but an issue we call “decalibration” persists. Fortunately, the motors that do work are performing very well, so we’re working hard to make production more reliable! Read the full update.

Sample Testing

We placed the order for the production motors about two weeks ago, so we figured it was about time for an update! We’ll be getting samples next week and putting them to the test before we give our manufacturer the green light to do a run of 1,000 motors. The tests will be split up into two categories: quality assurance and R&D testing. Read the full update.

Thank You

The IQ Motion Control team wants to thank all of our backers for their support during our campaign. We’ll be heading to China in early July to oversee motor production and assembling/calibrating the modules in August. Our Crowd Supply page will remain open for pre-orders in the meantime, but prices will increase by 10%. There’s still a few hours left to get our motor modules at their reduced price! Keep an eye out for our video with ZoeFPV this weekend! Read the full update.
