Vinny is the latest set of members to join the Plywerk family. Always a huge music fan, Vinny was born to honor our records, in the most sustainable way possible. Vinny is actually a line of three gorgeous display items for your vinyl collection:
A stand to display a record you are listening to in the most elegant and minimal way possible.
Two frames to display your most precious records on the wall. Change them out whenever the mood strikes. Available in single or gatefold editions.
A crate to store up to 80 records. Multiple configuration options. As aesthetically beautiful as it is functional.
The whole Vinny family is made from gorgeous red-tinged juniper with accents of dark-chocolate walnut.
Using real soft- and hardwoods means that each and every Vinny is 100% unique.
The short answer: because your memories matter and because you can’t hang an MP3 on your wall.
The long answer: It’s no secret that records have been making quite a come back for the past few years. Many people in the music industry will tell you that it is the best way to record and listen to music. Also, unlike MP3’s, a record provides a tangible experience that our digital-driven lives often lack.
And finally, records have a nostalgic touch. Having them in our hands can bring up memories. Whether it’s the smell of an old sleeve, the story behind a special edition, an album-art design you adore, a gift... we sometimes care for our records more than we care for anything else.
When we say we are More Than Just Green, these are not just words. And a new product seems like the perfect opportunity to be that little bit more sustainable. This is why we decided to use restoration juniper to create Vinny.
Juniper is a perfect example of a triple-bottom-line (people, planet, profit) material. Sustainably harvesting and milling juniper helps provide jobs to the rural economies and communities of Eastern Oregon. Removing juniper and allowing sagebrush to return to the rangelands provides a natural habitat for sage grouse and other wildlife.
Launched in 2013 by former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and in collaboration with Sustainable Northwest, the Western Juniper Alliance are the driving force behind bringing this gorgeous wood to market. Watch this video for all the details.
Originally we wanted to provide you with juniper berry New Deal Distillery gin. Alas, the powers that be (aka liquor laws) prohibit it. Flecked with knotty juniper goodness, plus a pint and shot glass from Portland’s New Deal Distillery, each of these sets will let you drink your beer-back in more style than a Parisian fashionista during fashion week.

Choose your favorite lyric (recommended… unless it’s Justin Bieber), quote or a very short love-poem you just came up with (probably not recommended) and we’ll custom laser-engrave it onto your Vinny. The engraving must be on the front (like the image below) and is limited to 144 characters (including spaces). Enter your phrase in the order notes at checkout. Here are some inspiring ideas:

We are proud to call Plywerk a local, lean and green manufacturer. Here’s some highlights as to what this really means:
Plywerk started 8 years ago, in a basement. Kim, a photographer, needing to mount a photo, took some wood glue to the photo and applied it to a piece of plywood. Kjell, a serial entrepreneur and graphic designer, saw an opportunity. A product was created and a business was born.
In 2012, we moved our growing team out of our house, into a new workshop and began to expand the product line to offer more ways for you to display your photos, products and memories.
We plan to make all Vinny’s in our workshop in Portland, Oregon.
If this campaign were successful beyond our dreams it is possible that we may not be able to source enough restoration western juniper. If that were to happen we could look at other similar local woods and/or source a non-western juniper.
When can I hope to receive my Vinny pack?
We currently expect to start shipping in May 2015.
Do we need a power source for Vinny to work?
No, Vinny is a sustainable wooden record frame, it does not require any electricity but maybe elbow grease to unwrap it and hang it.
Can we buy Vinny even if we do not own records?
We do not discriminate anyone. You can absolutely purchase Vinny without owning any records.
We will not dignify this question with an answer.
Will you still make custom laser engraved Vinny after the crowdfunding campaign?
Unfortunately It will just be just for the crowdfunding. But, maybe make us an offer we can’t refuse.
Can I order several pledge levels?
Yes feel free to order as many as you wish. Except for the early birds packages which are limited (sorry!)
