DeskThing: Repurposing the Spotify’s Car Thing as a Desktop Controller

The Car Thing was Spotify’s attempt at an in-car music controller—until they discontinued it, leaving behind high-quality but locked-down hardware seemingly destined for e-waste. However thanks to the effort of many people in many communities, there’s plenty of ways to continue using the hardware for both things it was and was not designed to do.
DeskThing is an open-source project and platform for applications and integrations for the Car Thing. With applications for Spotify, Discord, and weather as well as many community created applications such as a pomodoro-thing and DeskThing-SportsHub, there’s many ways to utilize a Car Thing after Spotify has deemed it EoL and unsupported.
We’ll showcase a variety of use cases for DeskThing across many Car Things, from todo lists to music playback controls to macros and more.
