It Never Rains on Coin Cells

These panels of cloud-themed happily (or angrily?) blinking completed soldering kits take you through a series of both emotions and weather events. Dangling from each cloud is a (sometimes) gentle rain of LEDs. The kits are all made to be powered by coin cell batteries yet are ironically powered by USB adapter boards and rechargeable lithium ion batteries, indicating that the weather has in fact changed to raining on the use of coin cell batteries. The installation represents an array of feelings that learning a new skill can bring - the happiness of starting something new, the anger and frustration when you’re not doing as well as you think you should, the coldness of being frozen out of learning / having been gatekept, the warmth when you’ve gained enough practice to be confident, and the radiance of having mastered the skill and fully incorporated it into your toolbox. This is also an instructional display with information about its construction that will hopefully inspire you to create with LEDs.
