Carrie Sundra will talk about the development of a small handheld product, and how over the past year it’s gone from being powered by a disposable coin cell, then small LiPo, then rechargeable LiR coin cell. She’ll also talk about a failed attempt to list a product with a coin cell on amazon, and share a framework for making sense of the new regulations that went into effect in 2024. And if that wasn’t enough, she’s also considering putting a lithium-ion cell into yet another product and will share what she’s learning about shipping regulations and what may be needed for international sales. There will also be some fun tech talk about the variety of chips on the market that buck, boost, charge, and protect lithium cells.
What’s a single person business with limited resources to do? Come to this talk, obviously! No one likes trying to navigate a confusing, boring, and at times hypocritical set of rules, and what’s even worse is doing it alone. She’s had the benefit of knowing others in this community with similar interests and experiences who have helped her make sense of the landscape, and she wants to share this community knowledge so that it’s a little easier for others to create fun, useful devices, and maybe even make a sustainable income doing it.
