Stringman is a simple, open-source cable robot for your living space. It’s an appliance that you turn on to clean the floor in 15 minutes, and turn back off. Laundry, toys, and trash are dropped in marked bins. Your video never leaves your network if you so choose. Anchors are installed in the corners and the gripper is attached to fishing lines with quick clips. Unlike a desktop arm, it can reach anywhere in the room, but it doesn’t have to navigate or balance like a mobile robot.
Any use you can think of for a two fingered gripper which can move anywhere in the volume of a single room is probably possible. The nf_robot Python module provides a simple interface to command the robot to any location and start an automatic grasp, so you don’t have to deal with the low level control.
