Discover an Auto Open Lead Detect DMM design.

See and learn about a voltmeter that uses a small transient and RC decay to detect the difference between when ā€œ0Vā€ means floating versus closed probes. This aids circuit troubleshooting by giving a positive indication when zero actually means zero, and when a zero means no galvanic connection. This design also allows the voltmeter to be used as a continuity tester with a binary large mega-ohm threshold.
