How To Create A Custom Acrylic Top Plate

by Paul B

Hey everyone! Our campaign has reached 36% of our goal. I would like to express my sincere thanks to you all.

This week I would like to share how you can easily create a custom acrylic top plate with cutouts for switches, buttons, and headers without any fancy 3D CAD software.

Most major EDA tools (Eagle, Altium, KiCad) have the option to simply export a DXF file.

All you need to do is simply draw the plate outline directly in your EDA tool (preferably on a separate mechanical layer) and include any cutouts you need!

Once you have your DXF file you’re ready to submit it to a quick turn laser cutting service. The DXF file will tell the lasers where to cut your part.

Thanks again for all those who’ve pledged your support. We’re coming down the home stretch! More updates to follow, so stay tuned!
