Hi and welcome to the latest production update! There’s a lot of progress to share this time, so let’s dive in.

Large shipments have arrived

First of all, I can happily say that all critical electronics have now arrived. The displays, which were originally scheduled to ship near the end of June, were finished ahead of schedule and have safely arrived in the Netherlands. Similarly, the large production batch of custom PCBs has been manufactured and shipped smoothly and without issues.
A minor issue arose when some of the black carbon steel screws arrived scratched and had already started to corrode. They have since been replaced with black stainless steel screws, which have also recently arrived.

Boxes, manuals, and packaging

Now that all hardware components have arrived, it was time to order the packaging materials. The box and manuals have been ordered from local printing companies in the Netherlands, and have also arrived recently.

Inside the cardboard box, a plastic spacer is placed that provides structural support. On top of the spacer, the E-reader will sit, accompanied by German and English booklets containing safety instructions and an introduction to the device.

Upon first use, you will be greeted by a digital introductory guide that explains the basics of the device and provides more in-depth information on its various functions.
Every device comes preloaded with a public-domain e-book, allowing you to start reading immediately if you wish. Additionally, this e-book assists us during quality control by verifying storage access, font loading, and several other system functions.

Assembly has begun!

With all critical hardware components now available, the exciting (but tedious) process of assembling the devices is finally underway. Several hundred of the plastic housings have already been 3D-printed by our print-farm, and the remainder will be printed in the coming weeks.

Upcoming milestones

We are now hard at work assembling, testing, and packaging the devices. Our updated goal was to ship a first batch of devices in August, and we are happy to say that we are still on schedule for that. When the first batch ships, we will also publish the project source code and design files, which will be announced with an update here. Stay tuned!
