We are the cofounders of halfmarble, based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
We don’t build for a market; we build for a race. Our work is centered on "engineering for the unbridgeable difference." Whether it’s hardware designed to stabilize a trembling hand or software tracking the science of cellular repair, these projects are the mechanics of survival.
Steady Hand is the result of a partnership between engineering and care. It was born from a personal slice of "PD hell"—the absolute necessity to keep tinkering when biology tried to stop it. Gerard brings the engineering focus on vibration dampening and mechanical precision, while Anya, a career nurse, brings the clinical reality of the human toll. She sees, every day, what happens when the spirit outpaces the body’s ability to keep up. Her perspective ensures that our designs aren’t just theoretically sound, but practically vital for those who refuse to let a tremor dictate their output.
Together, we’ve realized that if you want to keep creating, you need a tool that treats precision not as a luxury, but as a technical requirement for survival.
Our philosophy is simple: Science is the engine. We are committed to creating high-precision, open-source hardware that empowers makers to stay in the race, regardless of the biological hurdles in their path. As Halfmarble LLC, we are committing 10% of the profit, from every Steady Hand tool sold, to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to support their mission to find a cure for Parkinson’s. We are working toward a future where the race no longer needs to be run.
