What Is A Total Solar Eclipse?

The Total Solar Eclipse on August 21 is a once-in-a-lifetime event, but what’s so special about it? Here is a deeper dive into the awesome science behind it from OMSI’s Space Science expert Jim Todd.

A Year in the Planetarium

Treat yourself to a year’s worth of starry adventures and surreal laser shows. Since debuting our first planetarium in 1950, technology has leapt to 360-degree, full-dome projection that combines thousands of images into a journey across the cosmos. The dark side of the planetarium presents laser shows set to music ranging from Pink Floyd to Beyoncé. Package includes 12 vouchers for one (1) admission to a planetarium show. Passes expire on September 30, 2018.

Private Planetarium Experience for 20 at OMSI After Dark

Can you say Laser Beyoncé? That’s right, you and 19 friends can throw a private party in our beloved Planetarium dancing your hearts out to “Drunk in Love.” Or if Beyoncé’s not your jam, throw it back to psych-rock legends Pink Floyd, or launch deep into the stratosphere with a space show led by OMSI’s resident space science expert Jim Todd. Spend the rest of the night exploring the museum with a beer in hand at our most popular adults-only experience, OMSI After Dark. 3 drink tickets per person. 21 and over. • Wednesday, December 6, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., followed by public OMSI After Dark: Sugar & Spice until 10 p.m.
