We Are Live!

by Darian J

We are happy to announce that the Newt campaign is LIVE!

Newt is a battery-powered, always-on, wall-mountable display that can go online to retrieve weather, calendars, sports scores, to-do lists, quotes…really anything on the Internet! Newt is powered by an ESP32-S2, which means you can write your own code in Arduino, CircuitPython, MicroPython, or ESP-IDF.

We wanted to build a device that takes smart displays to the next level, so we ditched the E-Ink screen typically seen in other low-power displays and instead built Newt with a SHARP Memory-in-Pixel (MiP) LCD. MiP technology takes the low power consumption and daylight readability we love about E-Ink screens and combines them with the crispness and sub-millisecond refresh rates of OLED displays. Say goodbye to annoying screen refreshes and hello to a device that can support frequent updates, countdown timers, and animations.

Each Newt is pre-loaded with our custom firmware, which provides the following functionality out-of-the-box: alarms, timers, current weather information, daily and hourly weather forecasts, inspirational quotes, air-quality forecasts, and a habit calendar. Just follow the instructions to connect your Newt to Wi-Fi (no app download required) and you’ll have a fully-functioning Newt in less that two minutes.

We are excited about sharing Newt with the world and can’t wait to see what things you do and build with it!
