Crowd Supply Launches Record Number of Products in 2020, Supporting Innovation in Hardware Development

January 13, 2021Crowd Supply, the leading product development platform connecting hardware creators with early adopters and enthusiastic backers, demonstrated impressive growth throughout 2020, both in the size of its product portfolio and in its community of supporters. Following a third quarter in which the platform doubled its number of product launches over the same period in 2019, Crowd Supply posted a record number of product launches and sales in Q4 2020.

Crowd Supply also made tremendous strides in the development of its community during 2020, increasing its number of newsletter subscribers to more than 53,000, as well as launching a Discord server with more than 1,000 active members. Throughout 2020, Crowd Supply established its position as a hub for innovation by hosting important RISC-V-based development boards, FPGA devices, and an open-source DIY laptop called MNT Reform. Crowd Supply also hosted the launch of Precursor, a RISC-V system-on-chip mobile device developed by noted hacker studio Sutajio Kosagi, headed by Andrew “bunnie” Huang. Precursor raised nearly $400,000 during its Crowd Supply campaign.

To build on the platform’s recent growth and increase its presence in the hardware development community, Crowd Supply recently appointed Helen Leigh to the position of Head of Community. In her new role, Leigh will build relationships with the international hardware development community and work to increase Crowd Supply’s presence among creatives and product developers. Leigh is a creative technologist with extensive experience in product development, having worked on projects ranging from Internet of Things prototypes for Intel to a DIY wearable gesture-controlled musical instrument for Grammy-award-winning musician Imogen Heap. Leigh is the author of DIY Music Tech and The Crafty Kid’s Guide to DIY Electronics and writes a regular column on hardware for Make: Magazine.

“We are thrilled to welcome Helen to the Crowd Supply family and look forward to expanding our pursuit to bring new products to market for creators across the globe,” says Josh Lifton, Crowd Supply co-founder and president. “All of us are tremendously grateful for all of the support we’ve received from our backers and followers during 2020. We expect even more exciting launches in 2021 as engage more deeply with our community.”
