A New Enclosure and a Delay

by Ashwin W

It has been quite a while since we posted an update, but we have been working hard to get the first batch of production units ready. We have some good news and some not-so-good news to share with you.

Starting with the not-so-good news first, we have run into a delay. This is mainly because of certain compliance-related issues that delayed our payment from Crowd Supply. Thankfully, the folks at Crowd Supply were helpful in figuring out a way to fix the issue and we received the funds yeseterday. However, this added a full 30 days delay to our timeline. We had already gone ahead and started some of the production work, but some vendors would not start work until they received the payment in advance, so we can start those now. We are back on track and expect to have the first batch of production units ready by the end of this month. This means we can ship the first batch to Crowd Supply/Mouser by the beginning of September and they can start shipping the units to you by the end of September. We are sorry for the delay and we are working hard to make sure that we ship the units to you as soon as possible.

A New Enclosure

Now, for the good news. We have been working on a new enclosure for the board and we are happy to share the first prototype SLA prints with you. We decided to go with a transparent custom-moulded ABS enclosure. We have already placed the order for the moulds and we expect to have the first batch of production enclosures ready before the end of this month. For all those of you that have placed orders for the complete kit, we will be shipping the new enclosure along with it, no extra cost added!

Production Progress

While we wait to get a time slot with our testing service provider, we have already started production of the main boards and the add-on boards for the complete kit version. Here are some shots of the latest (and the first) production boards. We have all the components and bare board panels ready for the first batch of production units. We are just waiting for the EMI/EMC testing to be completed before we start assembling the boards. Assembly and testing should be completed in about a week after that. If we get our test slots confirmed for next week, we should be able to ship the first batch of production units to Crowd Supply/Mouser by the first week of September.

Again, we are very sorry for the delay and we are working hard to make sure we ship the units to you as soon as possible. We will keep you posted on the progress and we will share more pictures of the production units as we get them, so stay tuned!
