Project update 4 of 6

Compression, Bluetooth, and More!

by Trevor R

Hello everyone! I can’t believe it’s been another week already…

Production Progress

We wanted to clarify that the Deluxe units will come with whichever backplate type (DOL-001 or DOL-101) you selected and that all backplates will come in black. Yes, we know that some of you have expressed interest in color-matching your console, but we are not ready to offer multiple colors yet.

We’re still flashing the first thousand units and are about to send them to the warehouse this coming week. They will all come pre-flashed with 1.1.1, but you are still encouraged to update to the newest software when you receive your unit.

Additionally, we decided to redesign the box art and add some product compliance information directly to the back of the box. We mostly made this change to avoid having to cover the logo with stickers.

Upcoming Software

Many of you have asked about the Ethernet and Wi-Fi functionality and whether it will allow the use of Online / Local play games that require Broadband Adapter support (e.g., PSO, Kirby Air Ride, MKDD). This is still in the proof-of-concept phase, but we are confident that it will be possible to support BBA Emulation. Please stay tuned, and we will provide an update soon.

This weekend, we will release a software update that includes access to the file compression software for Windows PCs. If you have limited space and would like to compress your games ahead of time, definitely take a look and start converting!

Bluetooth Controllers

There is still a lot of work to be done to make Bluetooth controller support rock-solid, but I wanted to provide some more details for those who are interested.

The Bluetooth feature will be available through a menu item on the bootloader which means you will need to use a wired controller for the first time you pair a controller. Afterward, Bluetooth controllers will automatically reconnect.

We will support four concurrent controllers, and you can still have a wired controller connected to any of the four ports while using this feature. Additionally, you can map the buttons however you like using a remapping utility built into the FlippyDrive menu.

More Press

This week, we sent out several press units for review, so look forward to some of your favorite YouTube creators posting unboxing and review content.

Thanks for following along!
