Zerowriter Ink has delivered and landed with first adopters. I’ve heard from people in North America and Europe who are already setting up and working away on their devices. Thank you! Many of you have already received your Inks, and more will over the next few days. Our second leg of shipping will kick in after a few more weeks of production. We are rolling!
Your Zerowriter Ink will have some instructions inside, but I thought a followup email might be nice as well. This page is a great place to start: https://zerowriter.ink/pages/welcome-to-zerowriter-ink
As-is, your Zerowriter Ink is ready for action. If you choose to, there is an optional update available via:
https://zerowriter.ink/pages/firmware-updates
For this first batch of Zerowriter Ink units, updating the first time should be done via UART/USB. The Web Updater has been tested and works, but I will roll out some other ways to update, like standalone apps (MAC and Windows), or via python script.
After the update, your Zerowriter Ink can be updated over the built-in SD card without issue.
And, of course, you could do it via Arduino with the source code itself, which I will be releasing here over the next few weeks.
I’m working on documentation, some video overviews of the features, a full tear-down, and stuff like that.
You can always contact me or the Crowd Supply team for help. As the earliest adopters, you guys are ground zero for any problems that I couldn’t catch in testing. If you are having any trouble at all, please contact me, I am here for you if you need help! If you prefer, you can email me directly: adam@zerowriter.ink or help@zerowriter.ink. I would love to hear from you.
With indie hardware, sometimes things can be a bit unique. Maybe a screw is missing, or a keycap broke, or whatever — let me know, and we’ll make it right. I want every backer to enjoy their Zerowriter Ink.
You can also join our discord, which has a bunch of people setting up and working on their Inks: (https://discord.gg/PFYWJmZ4JX)
For example, we have a couple people who have built keymaps for DVORAK and French Canadian layouts, over there. And people who can help get the updater working, as Espressif’s ESP32 updater can be a bit funky.
The order system did some funny stuff the last few days, and some backers were sent email invoices in error. If you got one of these emails, we are sorry - but all seems like it is back in order, and there’s nothing to worry about.
