Thank You and Some Back Story

The zGlue team

At zGlue, we’re working to build a future where an idea can turn into a software model in minutes and into a finished hardware product in just days. We want everyone to benefit from the power of Moore’s Law, enjoy the wonders of semiconductors, and experience the quality, speed, and scalability that comes with making custom ICs. We saw a need for a different kind of technology, one that is cheaper than SoCs, smaller than PCBs, and both easier and faster to bring from prototype to production than using traditional design and manufacturing services.

That’s what inspired us to start the research and development for our 2.5D chip stacking technology. Our goal is to empower anyone to design a custom, affordable, ultra-small, power-efficient chip for their own smart device using software tools, and have it manufactured at volume in days.

zOrigin is the first product to showcase zGlue’s technology. It’s the first wearable design powered by active chip stacking. At the heart of the zOrigin is a ZiP (zGlue Integration Platform) chip in a 8.7 mm x 9.1 mm package. We challenged ourselves to maximize integration in a tiny footprint. After intense brainstorming sessions and multiple component iterations, we settled on squeezing an entire wearable system into one chip, including six ICs, one FET, and over 30 passive components. ZiP bears unlimited customization possibilities, allowing both the size and content of a ZiP chip to be customized for any design. It’s the dawn of a completely new breed of ICs.

Every backer of this campaign will get a free trial of our zCAD software for designing their own chips.

On May 18th, 2018, our guest of honor, Misfit founder Sonny Vu announced zOrigin at Makers Faire Bay Area. We chose Makers Faire to announce zOrigin because we believe Chip DIY should be accessible by everyone who is a maker at heart.

"I really love the concept of zGlue and am waiting to design
something of my own using zCAD!"
