Using Waterproof DS18B20 Temperature Sensor

Although the main purpose of ANAVI Thermometer is measuring ambient room temperature, our development board is also useful for those of you interested in measuring temperature of liquids. All advanced and developer kits come with digital waterproof temperature sensor. It is a convenient addition to any home automation project for monitoring temperature in fish tanks or soil in flowerpots.

DS18B20 measures temperatures from -55° C to +125° C (-67° F to +257° F). The accuracy is ±0.5° C from -10° C to +85° C. It is a digital temperature sensor that communicates through 1-wire signaling protocol. This protocol is similar in concept to I2C, but with longer range and lower data rates.

The waterproof housing of the sensor included in the advanced and developer kits is 1 meter long. Using a screwdriver DS18B20 should be attached to the dedicated terminal on ANAVI Thermometer. To avoid any damage, turn off ANAVI Thermometer before connecting any peripherals.

The waterproof version of DS18B20 has three wires. Each wire has a different color. As shown on the photo above, the red wire has to be connected to 3.3V on the terminal of ANAVI Thermometer, the yellow wire is for data and the black wire has to be connected to ground (GND).

Thanks,
Leon
