Helping Baseball Pitchers Perfect Their Form!

by Maria Pontones

As we continue with our campaign, we thought you might like to hear about some of the interesting places where DAQiFi Nyquist 1 is doing its job. One such place is the laboratory of Sean Mais at the Baseball Development Group, where Sean is evolving his “smart mound" technology. This clever athletic training tool measures the ground reaction forces (GRFs) of pitchers as they execute a pitch.

Sean chose DAQiFi for its ability to give him the precision needed to analyze sports performance at the elite level. It met the challenge of capturing GRFs produced by pitchers along three axes at up to 1000 Hz (or one data point every 0.001s). Players and their coaches working with the Baseball Development Group will use this tool to make data-driven adjustments to the athlete’s form with the goal of improving and refining performance.

Says Sean, “This impressive piece of tech, paired with [DAQiFi’s] software has allowed me to capture the ground reaction forces of pitchers throwing off of a mound to a level of detail far beyond expectations. This data will allow myself and the professional coaches and doctors at the Baseball Development Group to enhance athletic performance from an objective, data-driven lens.”

We think Sean’s project is pretty cool! We’re happy he chose us to be a part of it.
