Project update 1 of 5
We are happy to announce that, as of today, the new Inkplate 6PLUS is available for purchase. The highlight of the 6PLUS is its upgraded e-paper display, which adds both a touchscreen and frontlighting to the tried-and-true, user-friendly Inkplate design. After two hugely successful campaigns, for Inkplate 6 and Inkplate 10, we have learned a great deal about e-paper (and received a ton of useful feedback from our wonderful backers!), and we’re feeling more than ready for this challenge.
Inkplate 6PLUS is a powerful, energy-efficient, Wi-Fi enabled ESP32 board with a recycled 6-inch e-paper display that features a touchscreen and frontlighting. As part of the Inkplate family, it’s among the easiest e-paper boards to use, regardless of whether you prefer to work with the Arduino IDE or with MicroPython. It’s plug-and-play, it’s packed with peripherals, and it’s open hardware supported by an open-source software library.
Using what we learned from the original 6- and 10-inch Inkplates—combined with a little reverse engineering—we worked out how to drive this newer-generation 6-inch e-paper display. But that was only the first step! With this product, we aim to continue offering the best, most feature-packed e-paper board on the market. Our goal is to address the challenges faced by those in the maker community who work with e-paper displays: poor documentation, difficult-to-use hardware, undocumented code, low-speed screen updates, and lack of support for grayscale and partial-refresh modes. With the Inkplate family, and with the 6PLUS in particular, we believe we have achieved that goal, and we fully expect to continue achieving it.
And if the specific feature you were hoping for didn’t make it into this model, don’t worry! We have plenty of new Inkplate stuff coming down the pipe. But that’s a story for another day. :) For now, we invite to come have a look at Inkplate 6PLUS!
Thanks again to everyone for their support,
