Desktop Shipping Update

Dear Backers,

Before we get started, there’s just one thing we want everyone to see:

We are starting to ship desktop units to backers, and you’re going to need to assemble the LCDs into your bezels. It’s extremely important that backers be aware that holding the LCD by the black area will most definitely break your LCD; a small amount of torque applied to the PCB within the black area will cause it to delaminate from the LCD glass, and you will be very sad.

Now appropriately warned, there is an assembly guide available for the desktop units:

We strongly encourage all desktop and laptop backers to review this assembly guide, as it contains important information that will greatly improve your chances of building your kit correctly.

Currently, about two dozen desktop units are en route to our first backers located in the continental US. We’d like to make sure the units get to you undamaged before releasing shipment to the remainder of the backers. Everything about the assembly is full custom — down to the shipping box. It’s a lot of small things to get right, and most major manufacturers wouldn’t even consider a run the size of this campaign to be a pilot run — this is closer in size to an R&D lot. So, even though all the material is ready to go, we’ll sleep a lot better if we incrementally ship the units and get feedback from a few customers first. We apologize for making some backers wait a bit longer for their units, and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding. -bunnie & xobs
