Portsdown Digital TV Transmitter Support

by Andrew Back

The Portsdown 2019 transmitter from the British Amateur Television Club (BATC) makes it easy and affordable for radio amateurs to get on the air with digital television. It builds upon the work of others — such as Evariste Courjaud, who put together a software stack that turns a Raspberry Pi into a DVB transmitter — to create an easy-to-use transmitter with features like a touch screen interface and a ready-to-run image that you can simply burn to an SD card.

Portsdown 2019 previously supported the combination of a LimeSDR Mini and a Raspberry Pi, but initial support is now available for running Portsdown on a LimeNET Micro with the official seven inch Raspberry Pi Touch Screen and Camera. The result is a highly integrated solution that also benefits from a GPSDO and support for Power-Over-Ethernet.
