About SwiftIO Playground Kit

The SwiftIO Playground Kit is carefully designed to provide you with a strong foundation for exploring embedded Swift programming, and simplifies the process by removing the complexities associated with traditional hardware electronics methods. With Swift, a powerful system-level language known for its optimized performance and ease of learning, you can confidently embark on your journey into hardware development.

If you’ve used kits like the Coding Array Kit (from which we drew our initial inspiration), Grove Beginner Kit, Arduino Sensor Kit, or PicoBricks, you’ll find this kit’s design familiar. We believe this design choice makes it an ideal starting point for your exploration.

While the initial prototype of the SwiftIO Playground Kit was created in 2021, we encountered unexpected challenges due to the global chip shortage, a hurdle faced by many hardware projects. However, this delay allowed us to further refine our platform and stabilize our software. We can’t wait for you to dive in and experiment with our SwiftIO Playground Kit.

Future Possibilities

The SwiftIO Playground Kit is designed with future expansion in mind. We’ve included an ESP32-C3 module to enable future expandability. Since this is still a relatively new field with limited available libraries, we’re developing our libraries (AT command) from the ground up.

Additionally, we have plans to tightly integrate Swift’s low-level runtime with Zephyr RTOS, unlocking the full potential of Swift’s modern features, such as concurrency. Once this aspect is completed, most Swift packages should seamlessly work on our platform.
