Using ESPNetlink as an IoT LTE gateway

by Ali Slim

I’d like to share a new possible use case for ESPNetLink: using it as an IoT LTE gateway.

ESPNetLink includes a Quectel BG95 modem, paired with an ESP32-S3, which is capable of handling routing between Wi-Fi and LTE. This allows ESPNetLink to provide LTE connectivity for Wi-Fi enabled devices. Any nearby device can connect to ESPNetLink’s Wi-Fi access point and get online through its LTE connection, which is perfect for remote or mobile environments that lack traditional network access.

It’s important to note the BG95 modem offers a limited data rate, which makes it best suited for IoT and low-bandwidth applications such as telemetry, sensor data, or remote monitoring. It’s not designed for high-throughput tasks like video streaming or large data transfers.

This makes ESPNetLink ideal for lightweight, always-connected IoT systems where power efficiency and reliability matter more than speed.

We’ll continue testing and showcasing more real-world applications, stay tuned for more updates soon!
