Miauwceiver packs an ecosystem of functions and modes into a single modular device. It is a transceiver using CRMX technology, capable of converting incoming wireless DMX signals to various protocols over common interfaces: I²C, USB, UART, SPI, WLAN, or GPIO’s. And vice-versa!

It’s modular, too. Add one of a variety of our shields to expand it for controlling servomotors, steppermotors, DC-motors, or dim LEDs.

Miauwceiver is a versatile device for using CRMX in your multimedia setup, visual art, music performance, or anything you can imagine. We want to bring the spirit of open hardware to the arts, like theatre, film, and immersive themed events.

Modular, Open, and Simple to Program

Thanks to Miauwciever’s open source and Arduino-based programming, you can add your own code with ease. Just grab our code and modify it to fit your needs. Or, plug it in and go—Miauwciever is a fully working product out of the box!

CRMX is a wireless DMX technology that transmits lighting control data in the 2.4 GHz band, using cognitive radio to avoid interference, with ~5 ms latency and typical line-of-sight ranges of a few hundred meters.

Embedded in the firmware are already tons of features, like an API to all the mode specific, CRMX and network settings. Set it up over the integrated webinterface, or with the Miauwceiver App available on iOS and Android, which helps you setting up multiple devices over WLAN at ease. In receiver modes the transceiver also supports RDM for setting up the start adress, read out DMX footprint or sensor data.

We will offer fully assembled units of transceiver and transceiver + Dimmer.shield within a sturdy, metal enclosure for professional use. But if you want to customize your own Miauwciever, you can use the provided Freecad FDM enclosure project files to create your own case from whatever material you want.

Open Source

The ESP32 firmware is written in Arduino code for easy use, with lots of common libraries. It will be released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 license. Use our ESP32 Webtool for easy updating, so you just need a Chrome browser and a USB Type-C cable. The same license applies for the Android and iOS Apps.

The hardware schematics of all PCBs, a KiCad template of an empty shield, Freecad projects as well as .step files of all FDM enclosure will be published under the CERN-OHL-W-2.0 License.

All open source resources will be made publicly available right before the first batch is shipping, in the form of three Github repositories for the app, firmware, and hardware.
