Pi.MX8 is an open source compute module based on the popular, dependable i.MX 8M Plus SoC series from NXP. The board is compatible with the popular Raspberry Pi CM4 module standard both in form factor and electrical specifications.
NXP’s guaranteed long-term processor support of 15 years combined with the expertise of a large customer and user base for the i.MX8 SoC gives you the security you need to build your system on.
The open approach of Pi.MX8 allows you to have complete ownership over your system with easily accessible documentation for all components used as well as access to the whole source dataset. Drop-in CM4 compatibility grants you access to a wide variety of readily available carrier boards for various industrial, IoT, and multimedia applications. With a 2.3 TOPS NPU integrated into the SoC as well as an optional Coral TPU, the Pi.MX8 can be equipped for demanding machine learning tasks.
If you do not already have a carrier board for your compute module – don’t worry. A custom baseboard along with one of the smallest enclosures available for the CM4 form factor will be part of the Pi.MX8 campaign.
The optional baseboard breaks out key interfaces needed for multimedia use cases. Two USB Type-A connectors, one USB Type-C connector for the power supply, one Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 connector, an HDMI port as well as a microSD card connector will be accessible externally.
Inside the enclosure, an FPC connector and FPC cable are available to route PCIe, 5 V, and 3.3 V power as well as CSI Interfaces to your custom hardware. The lid of the enclosure is a 3D printable part that can be easily customized to fit your needs.
