Newt Assembly is Complete, Shipping Soon to Backers!

by Darian J

A lot has happened since our last update: code modifications, continued parts shortages, and factory shutdowns; however, we’ve persevered through the challenges are we are still on track to make our ship-by dates. Read on for the latest information.

PCB Assembly

We chose to have NEWT assembled and tested by Makerfabs, located in Shenzhen, China. They have been great to work with, and we’ve been happy with the progress they’ve made (even with a two-week government-mandated shut down due to a COVID resurgence).

Part of the assembly process includes testing each individual NEWT to ensure that the board is properly assembled. The factory runs a simple test to validate that the microcontroller can successfully upload code via USB, the real time clock can be configured, the screen is working, and the buzzer operates. We then upload the ships-with software, so that the unit is operational once it’s in your hands.

Desktop Stands

The NEWT desktops stands were manufactured in the United States - specifically in NEWT headquarters (also known as Darian’s home office). After cutting the NEWT stands, we clean them and the bag them (with screws, mini magnet feet, and rubber feet). This gives users the option to place the NEWT on a metal/magnetic fixture (like a refrigerator door) or have use the stand to have NEWT sit on an end table, desk, or nightstand.

Update Your Address

NEWTs are not projected to ship to backers until June 30; however, don’t wait until the last minute to validate your shipping address. You can check your order details in your Crowd Supply Account or contact Crowd Supply Support, if needed.
