The PicoIDE campaign is live! If you’ve been waiting since the pre-launch page went up, thank you, and if you’re just finding out about PicoIDE now, welcome aboard.

Since the pre-launch announcement, we’ve completed design validation testing (DVT) and are now into production validation testing (PVT) in parallel with the campaign. Documentation is already up at picoide.com/docs, covering everything from hardware connections, microSD card setup, and controlling the PicoIDE from DOS or the Deluxe version exclusive front panel interface.

In addition to production updates, we plan on sharing insight into the development of PicoIDE in our campaign updates, including:

• Writing the docs: What went into creating the documentation that's already live
• Understanding the IDE bus: How PicoIDE's early development involved buying old books on eBay, building a special IDE bus analyzer mode into the firmware, comparing six different versions of the ATA specification, and good old trial and error
• Designing for injection molding: The process of going from prototype to production-ready design for PicoIDE's enclosure and buttons
• Taming the IBM PC/AT 5170: A deep dive into fixing compatibility with a particularly picky machine, with a lot of help from the community
• Beta testing: Iterating with PicoIDE's beta testers and the sometimes unusual machines they put PicoIDE through its paces on
