Project update 9 of 12

New CNC Aluminum Enclosure Prototype

by Ashwin Whitchurch

Experimenting With CNC-Machined Enclosures

In a previous update, we showed you some enclosure design improvements we have been working on. We have been experimenting with different colors, materials, and finishes to make HealthyPi Move look and feel more like a premium smartwatch and less like a prototype or research device. We are excited to announce that we now have CNC-machined Aluminium enclosures in hand!

It’s only a first prototype, but it looks and feels great. We are working on a few more iterations to get the design just right, including some tweaks to the overall thickness and the design of the buttons. This is a hand polished version of the CNC’ed 6061 alumnium alloy enclosure, but we expect the final version to be anodised either in black or natural silver. The anodised coating will provide a more durable finish and will also make the enclosure more scratch resistant. The watch straps are standard 22 mm silicone straps which are interchangeable with any standard 22 mm watch strap.

This enclosure design will get a final makeover once our new chassis design is ready. Once we are close to completion of the design, we will figure out how we can make the enclosure available to you as an option. We are working with Crowd Supply to figure out the logistics of this and will keep you updated on our progress.

Public Repo Now Available

On a separate note, as promised in the last update, the public HealthyPi Move Firmware repo has now become our primary repository for the firmware; all future updates and coding will be done directly in this repo. We also welcome you to check out the firmware and contribute to it if you are interested.

Stay tuned for more updates and thank you for your continued support!
