We’re excited to announce that Game Bub is shipping soon! The handhelds and docks have finally left the factory and are currently on their way to Mouser’s warehouse in Texas.
If you’ve already placed an order, your devices are in this shipment! And if you haven’t ordered your Game Bub yet, there’s a few hundred unclaimed units in the shipment, waiting to be ordered.
Please take some time to double-check your shipping address in your Crowd Supply order history! It’s been months since the campaign ended, and it would be very disappointing if your order didn’t make it to you because of an incorrect or outdated address.
On a personal note, thank you so much for all your patience and support. It’s taken a massive amount of time and work to get to this point, and it’s only possible due to all the campaign backers who provided funding and a whole lot of motivation to ship.
How long until I get my devices?
The devices are shipping from the factory in China to the United States: it could take a couple of weeks for shipping and customs clearance, and then another week or so for Mouser to unpack the shipments at their warehouse and ship them back out to customers. So in total, expect to receive your order about a month from now.
What took so long?
It’s mostly been small cascading delays that took us past our original shipping estimates.
The latest delay is due to a few issues that the Elecrow QA team flagged. Most of these were fairly minor, but one took a bit more time to resolve: there was a defect with a large number of link ports, which we discovered only after all the boards had been assembled. We found a new parts supplier, and repaired all of the boards by disassembling devices, replacing the link port, reassembling, and testing them.
We’ve worked out a lot of manufacturing difficulties on this initial production run. If there are more production runs in the future, they should go more smoothly (and we’ll be more conservative with our shipping estimates).
What’s next for Game Bub?
We’re finally shipping out devices, but we’re not done with Game Bub yet! We’ve been taking advantage of these latest delays to work on the Game Bub firmware 1.1 release.
The highlight of this release will be the ability to easily build and share FPGA cores just by placing them on a microSD card, without requiring you to rebuild and reflash your device firmware every time.
