This week’s update is all about using the Genbook RK3588: we will take a closer look at all the functions it already has and we’ll also tell you what we’re working on to make the device even more accessible. If you are a person with no (or few) programming skills, we are confident you can still use our laptop without too much effort, while having a lot of fun with it.

Operating System

GenBook RK3588 is an open-source laptop with Rockchip’s RK3588 at its heart.It supports multiple Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Debin, Armbian, Buildroot, Kirin, Tongxin, etc. The default operating system for GenBook RK3588 is Ubuntu 24.04. If you want to customize your own operating system, you can download the system image from our cloud drive and obtain the installation steps of system image from our open source community. We will do our best to provide you with excellent technical support.

Web Browsing

The GenBook RK3588 provides several network connections, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 . To connect to the internet, click on the network icon in the top tool bar and a dropdown menu with available Wi-Fi hotspots will be displayed.

The system comes with the Firefox browser already installed, so you can browse web pages, search for information, download files, etc.

Powerful AI Reasoning Ability

GenBook-RK3588-AI is a free and open source repository containing a series of AI demos. Developers can quickly deploy AI models on GenBook and refer to these demos to improve work efficiency.

Office Tasks

As one of the best Microsoft Office alternatives of 2021, WPS Office is fully compatible with main Linux distributions, including Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Writer, Spreadsheet, Presentation, and the PDF Toolkit can help you solve issues in viewing and editing common document types. Meanwhile, the small, but feature-rich PDF toolkit can help you convert PDFs from and to Word, Excel, PPT, and image files with ease.

Software Development

Visual Studio Code is a free coding editor that helps you start coding quickly. Use it to code in any programming language without switching editors. Visual Studio Code has support for many languages, including Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, and more. Ready to get started? Traditional embedded application software development requires the use of cross compilation environments. Genbook’s powerful performance supports local development of embedded application software, drivers, kernel compilation, and file system creation, effectively solving various third-party package compatibility issues in cross compilation environments.

Science and Engineering

KiCad is an open source software suite for Electronic Design Automation (EDA). The programs handle Schematic Capture and PCB Layout with Gerber and IPC-2581 output. The suite runs on Windows, Linux and macOS and is licensed under GNU GPL v3. GenBook’s powerful processing performance allows it to run KiCAD perfectly. Using Genbook’s multi-screen display function, it can display schematic and PCB files on different screens, greatly improving work efficiency.

Multiple Interfaces for Common Video Synchronously

The GenBook-RK3588 has powerful display capabilities. It can drive three screens simultaneouly, or provide other display functions using its external HDMI and TYPEC interfaces.
