Manufacturing Is Complete but Shipping Is Delayed

by Lali Jayatilleke

Hello all,

We’ve been working feverishly with our contract manufacturer (CM) in Shenzhen China to get all of the ScoutMakes kits manufactured and shipped. The shipment is on its way, and we expect to receive it by the end of the week. Unfortunately, that means we will not hit our initial shipping estimate of February 11th. We truly regret the delay.

The primary reasons for this delay are COVID-19 and the Chinese New Year, which starts on February 12th. Due to the holiday, factories in China started shutting down the week of February 1st. Our CM worked through the end of last week, so they were able to get everything completed and handed over to DHL for shipment, but then DHL began experiencing severe delays.

In order to ensure that we have time to receive the kits, test them, and prepare everything for shipment to Crowd Supply—without sacrificing quality—we’ve settled on a new shipping estimate of March 11th. So, thank you for your patience.

Below are a few updates (and pictures) that highlight what we’ve been up to lately:

1. The shipment from our CM is on its way, as mentioned above. Below, you can see the various parts, such as the motors, wheels, headers, and USB cables. The small, individually bubble-wrapped items are the robot expansion kit, the FM Radio kit, and the Azul boards:

2. Our Li-Po battery shipment was sent separately, from PKCELL, and has already arrived.

3. We have finished printing all parts of the Robot Kit.

4. We have released our CircuitPython library and sample code on our GitHub
repository
.

We will post another update as soon as we receive the shipment. Thanks for all your support!
