Our New Campaign Is Live on Crowd Supply!

by Alexander S

Modos Flow is a responsive, paper-like, touch-capable, 13.3-inch monitor for reading, writing, browsing, and focused work. It brings the calmness of e-paper to the work you do every day on the computer you already have.

Why We Built It

Many of us spend long days reading, writing, and browsing on bright computer screens. E-readers show how comfortable e-paper displays can be, even after a long reading session. We wanted that kind of experience for computer work, without giving up responsiveness.

And because e-paper reflects ambient light, Flow remains readable near windows and in many outdoor workspaces.

A Paper-Like Display for Everyday Work

Flow supports interactive tasks like typing, navigating documents, browsing, and moving between tools.

It is not meant to replace every screen for every task. Instead, Flow improves the tradeoffs for focused reading and writing, where readability, comfort, and responsiveness matter.

Features

Flow includes:

The color model also includes stylus support and an amber-tinted frontlight.

Why Speed & Modes Matter

Flow can update only the region that changes, such as a cursor, typed text, or part of a scrolling page. That helps typing, scrolling, and navigation feel more direct. It also lets the display use different update behavior for different tasks instead of forcing every workflow into one mode.

Flow includes modes for reading, browsing, watching, and writing. Reading favors clarity and stability. Writing minimizes latency. Browsing and watching balance speed, detail, and visual stability.

You can switch modes using physical buttons. The Modos Flow API also lets you bind display modes to keyboard shortcuts, so mode changes can be built into your workflow.

Built to Last

Flow is open hardware built with open-source software. Source files, firmware, documentation, and public issue tracking keep it inspectable and maintainable. That matters for a tool you use every day. Openness lets people understand how Flow works, report issues, and share fixes that others can inspect and improve.

Lessons learned from our successful Modos Paper Dev Kit campaign have informed how how we are preparing Flow for production and support.

After several pre-production revisions, Flow has passed validation. We have manufacturing arrangements in place and have sourced panels from E Ink. Our bill of materials, supplier quotes, and tooling are all ready to go.
