First of all, a huge thank you to all our backers so far. We’re incredibly grateful for the strong start - it really means a lot, and we’re excited to keep building this journey together with you.
The idea for Ampisu actually goes back a bit.
I spent over a year traveling in a van while supporting my previous crowdfunding project. My mobile lab setup was minimal: a laptop, a multimeter, a logic analyzer, and a programmer. It worked… mostly.
What I was really missing was space - and a proper power supply.
Of course, there are plenty of compact USB-C PPS-based power solutions out there. But they all came with trade-offs: limited voltage range (above 3.3V), no isolation, and no real programmability. Once you’re used to a full lab bench power supply, those limitations are hard to ignore.
So when I got back, I decided to build what I had been missing.
After a lot of research, simulations, and many iterations of prototypes, Ampisu was born.
Under the hood, it’s a surprisingly sophisticated piece of hardware: three isolated regulators, multiple DACs and ADCs, and a network of precision analog circuitry. It’s not the cheapest design - but that’s because we didn’t want to compromise on capability.
At the same time, it was important that Ampisu feels different too. Not just another USB gadget. The early design phase had… some familiar-looking results (let’s just say it briefly resembled a certain logic analyzer 😄), but with the help of a product designer friend, it evolved into something with its own identity.
On the software side, things came together in a really satisfying way. I’ve been using Zephyr as my go-to RTOS for years, and luckily, its new USB device framework - which took a long time to mature - now comes with excellent support for WebUSB. That made it possible to build a seamless connection between the device and the browser without any drivers or platform-specific hacks.
Looking back, that combination really captures what Ampisu is about: taking something inherently complex and making it feel simple, accessible, and reliable. It’s the tool I wished I had on the road - and now it’s something we get to build together with all of you. Thanks for being part of this journey.
