The Final Countdown. Let's Move That Needle!

We are heading into the last few days of the campaign, and we’re incredibly grateful to the backers who have brought us so close to our funding goal. Thank you for getting us here!
While the campaign has been running, we haven’t stopped working. Here is a look at what we’ve accomplished behind the scenes over the last few weeks:
Development Updates
- Refined Dynamic Pre-Regulation: In our last update, we discussed how controlling the Flyback converter's output voltage reduces power dissipation. While voltage tracking is straightforward (setting the flyback 2V higher than the user-configured output), current limiting proved trickier. We’ve successfully implemented a system where, upon hitting the current limit, the voltage adjusts to just above the limit-induced voltage, and instantly resets once the current draw drops. Optimizing the debounce and reaction times took serious effort, but we are thrilled with the stability of the result.
- Standalone Operation via Zephyr NVS: We are now using Zephyr Non-Volatile Storage to persist your device settings in flash memory with reduced wear. Not only is this convenient, but it means you can now use Ampisu on any USB power supply without a computer. Once programmed, it automatically configures its channels on bootup—making it incredibly handy for permanently powering standalone applications.
- Optimized Thermal Management: Based on data from our thermal camera measurements, we improved the board's thermal flow. By increasing specific copper pours and adding more thermal vias, we can much more efficiently conduct heat away from the two main transistors.
- Streamlined BOM: We finalized and simplified the Bill of Materials (BOM), removing a few redundant parts. This slightly reduces manufacturing complexity, lowering the risk of assembly delays.
- Fresh Prototype Validation: We have successfully assembled a new prototype incorporating all of the changes above to verify that the real-world performance matches our expectations.
