We have a quick update to share with you. Our new project, Openterface KeyMod, is getting ready to launch on Crowd Supply and the campaign’s subscription page is now live.
Following the launch of KVM-GO, KeyMod is a new, everyday control tool built for portable workflows: a compact, programmable, USB plus Bluetooth, HID emulator that turns your phone into a portable keyboard and trackpad console for quick local control and workflow shortcuts. It’s plug-and-play and 100% open source.
KeyMod is designed for moments when you need lightweight control while traveling, working in the field, or moving between devices. If you already use KVM-GO as a portable crash cart, KeyMod can complement that workflow when video is already available and you mainly need fast input, shortcuts, and repeatable actions.
It’s especially useful for portable scenarios such as laptops, tablets, mini PCs, dev boards, kiosks, and display computers where you want quick local control without carrying a full keyboard and mouse.
KeyMod supports Bluetooth for cable-free use when the scenario allows it. It’s intended for practical everyday local device control, not as a remote desktop replacement. It can emulate a keyboard and touchpad and it also supports advanced modes like keypad and gamepad.
It also includes programmable hardware buttons for quick triggers and simple macro style workflows. This capability is still experimental and will be refined through prototyping, testing, and community feedback.
KeyMod is planned in two hardware variants.
KeyMod is open hardware and open software. We will publish schematics, PCB files, firmware, software, and the BOM as the project evolves. For full documentation and specs, see the KeyMod product page on our website.
We are experimenting with an AI agent concept around the KeyMod workflow. More to share later.
