Hello everyone,
We’d like to share an update on the uSDR project and introduce the next evolution of our micro-SDR lineup: xSDR and sSDR.
You can think of xSDR as uSDR extended It preserves the minimal footprint and embedded-first design philosophy of uSDR, while significantly expanding RF capability and flexibility.
xSDR is a compact, single-sided M.2 software-defined radio designed for seamless integration into modern computing platforms. The “x” stands for extended, xSDR delivers extended bandwidth and multi-channel operation in the same small form factor that defined uSDR.
Despite these upgrades, xSDR fits the M.2 2230 A+E-key form factor (30 mm × 22 mm) as uSDR and plugs directly into laptops, tablets, smartphones, and embedded computers, with no external enclosures required.
Operating around 10.5 GHz, the X-band occupies a unique “sweet spot” in the RF spectrum, balancing physical and practical advantages. It is widely used in radar, remote sensing, communications, instrumentation, and advanced radio-location systems, providing excellent resolution and performance.
From a software perspective, all devices are interchangeable and no software updates are required to support new hardware. We use a unified FPGA implementation across the entire product line, so uSDR, xSDR, and sSDR share the same software foundation and will all receive new features and improvements.
When paired with the wsdr.io web platform, SDR enables instant creation, control, and sharing of RF applications directly from a browser. No complex driver installation or software setup is required, making it easy to work with.
uSDR remains an important part of our ecosystem and continues to serve as a robust, compact SDR for many applications, especially those requiring stability and functionality in harsh environments. The xSDR and sSDR represent the next step forward, aimed at users who need multi-channel operation, higher performance, and deeper integration into modern computing platforms.
