Combining Technology with Nature

The SchuttenWorks WAVE Apple Watch Charging Stand creates the perfect balance between nature and technology. Precision crafted in your choice of a stained Pitch Black, gorgeous Curly Maple, or Oregon Walnut , you show the world that design matters to you.

Choose between: stained Pitch Black, gorgeous Curly Maple, or Oregon Walnut.

You may not have your Apple Watch yet. In fact, you may not even be sure if you want one. But as one friend said: “These stands are so gorgeous, maybe I should get myself an Apple Watch”.

They say, “beauty is skin deep”, not in this case though, beauty is throughout. We thought of all the details in the design of these stands to have them function perfectly. If fact, hardly visible from the pictures above, each stand is actually composed of two pieces that simply snap together. To ensure that these two pieces are perfectly aligned and stay together to form the stand, we use two precision cut dowels and six strong magnets.

With the cable guide cut out of each of the pieces you can easily insert your Apple Watch charger (comes with the Watch) and snap the two pieces pieces together, and you have your stand ready to go, the cable completely hidden inside the stand! Who wants messy cables?

Easy One-Handed Docking and Undocking

As you may (or may not) know the Apple Watch magnetically latches on to the charger. This means that when you put your Watch on the charger (dock it), of take it off the charger (undock it), you have to overcome this magnetic force. To ensure that the stand is not lifted off your desk or nightstand when you dock/undock your Apple Watch we use advanced micro suction tape on the bottom of the stand and in the pocket that holds the charger. Since this micro suction tape bonds to any smooth surface with air, or more precisely, lack of air creating a suction force, your stand and charger will not lift off when you undock your Watch.

Repositioning the stand is easy. Just apply some force to break the suction and place it somewhere else. The only thing that may happen is that the tape accumulates some dust. Just wipe it off with a damp cloth, wait until it is completely dry, and it works as new.

About SchuttenWorks

SchuttenWorks was founded in 2012 by Rindert Schutten. Rindert was born in the Netherlands and moved in 1989 to the Unites States, where he continued his career in the high tech world of computer chips. He started off in engineering and later moved into various consulting and marketing roles. Then in 2012 he opted for a radical change and founded Schuttenworks. SchuttenWorks’ (www.schuttenworks.com) focus is on unique accessories for Apple mobile devices. To date SchuttenWorks has sold over four thousands acoustic docking stations for iPhone and iPad.

Manufacturing Plan

All our manufacturing is and will be done in Portland Oregon. We believe in American Made. We have a small, yet very efficient shop in Portland and use high tech machining to manufacture the stand to achieve the precision required. This is complemented by hand-sanding, three coats of Tung Oil, and finally the assembly and packaging of the stands. Depending on the success of this campaign, we will either expand our manufacturing capabilities and/or workforce to meet demand and further grow our business. We have the prototypes and the manufacturing process ready to go, which is why we can start delivering The WAVE shortly after the campaign concludes.

Risks and Challenges

Like any endeavor there are risks. The risks we see are to a large extent related to the availability of resources, primarily the wood that we use. The Oregon Walnut comes from salvaged trees we source locally from a supplier in Portland. We are not sure that, when we exceed our goals, we can source all the Oregon Walnut and Curly Maple required and may have to source slightly different wood species.

On the manufacturing side the risks are limited and will only affect schedule. There is always the possibility of machine break down, which may take a few weeks to resolve. If we meet our goal, we will have enough capacity and man power to deliver on time. If we substantially exceed our goal, we simply have to expand our capacity, and some deliveries will have to move out further into the June, or the July timeframe. Everything has been set up so that the manufacturing of the stands can scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do the magnets impact the functioning of the charger or the Apple Watch? Answer: Just like for magnetic cases for iPhone, the magnets just supply a static magnetic field (like the earth does) and do not impact the function of either the charger or the Watch.
