Only good news for you today, slimes :)
The most important information for you all is that another shipment of 2,828 sets of Slimes has arrived to Mouser a few days ago! In total we shipped 19,091 sets to Crowd Supply for fulfillment - crazy number that we never dreamed about! Thanks in part to Mouser’s upgraded system for fulfillment of Crowd Supply orders, most of the orders have already been sent out to backers! There are still some open orders from this shipment that Mouser is working on, and they should be shipped in the next few days, so keep an eye out for emails.
Slimes shortly before UPS took them on a journey!
As usual, we need to remind you that when your order ships, you will get a confirmation email from Crowd Supply with tracking number. If you’re waiting for your order, please check your shipping address in your account! If your address have changed since you ordered, please contact Crowd Supply support as soon as possible to prevent any shipping issues!
No all orders are in this shipment. You’re buying slimes so fast that we’re still behind on fulfillment! Some of the sets ordered recently will be in the next shipment (designated Shipment 13). But don’t be afraid - it’s already in production and coming soon! If there are no additional delays, next shipment will arrive some time mid-March!
We still have a lot of sets in shipment 13, so if you see March as shipping date on Crowd Supply when you order - that means your order is in the next shipment and will arrive soon!
SlimeVR is continuously improving thanks to the efforts of our community and team. Right now we’re testing Release candidate of the version 0.14.0 of our new server that packs a few new exciting features: automatic firmware update for the trackers, ability to toggle magnetometer from settings, skeleton constraints, as well as a bunch of bug fixes and minor improvements. If you have your Slimes and you want to participate in the testing, join our Discord server and check the Release Candidate post in the beta-test forum!
Even if you received your slimes more than a year ago, they can still get better! With the new server version, all trackers will be able to automatically update to the latest firmware version over-the-air, no tinkering or knowledge required.
The most important change for official SlimeVR trackers in the latest firmware update is the ability to toggle magnetometer on and off from the settings in the server. All Slimes contain a magnetometer (a compass), but by default it’s disabled. But for some people with good magnetic environment (with not much metals in their playspace) turning magnetometer on can eliminate drift completely. If you are one of them, try it out and see if it works for you!
Another feature that’s in the testing is Skeleton Constraints (or Limits). Even though it’s pretty hard to implement, the idea is very simple - SlimeVR server doesn’t let trackers drift beyond what human body can bend. This doesn’t eliminate trackers drift completely, but it puts a hard limit on it - your torso will never be 180 degrees twisted at least!
This feature didn’t get into Release Candidate 1 for 0.14.0, but we’re incredibly excited about it. Stay Aligned feature slowly compensates for tracker drift by aligning the body with a few base poses - standing, sitting, laying down - depending on what’s closest. By doing it very slowly, it doesn’t interfere with normal movements, but in many normal uses of Full-Body Tracking in VR, like VRChat or other social VR activities, it can completely eliminate drift! It still needs a bit of cooking, mostly in improving user experience and settings, but it works great for people who tested it! If you want to try it too, there is a separate SlimeVR Server beta for it on our beta-testing forum.
Of course it’s not all. We’re also working on new hardware. There isn’t much to talk about yet beyond what we showed in one of the previous updates like Smol Slimes and Glove. All of it requires more work before it’s ready to be showcased and announced, but the future is looking bright for open-source affordable VR ^^ We hope to share it with you soon!
