0.010
In this episode of the Teardown Sessions, we're speaking to Carl Laufer from RTL-SDR. They are running a Crowd Supply campaign for Discovery Dish, a system for weather and Inmarsat satellite reception, and hydrogen line radio astronomy for RTL-SDR users. The Discovery Dish aims to be the start of an ecosystem of hardware designed to get users set up with satellite reception, including a planned companion light-duty antenna rotator.

Prunt Board 3
Thanks to everyone who has backed Prunt Board 3, we have now reached our funding goal! We have already begun the last pre-production work so we can begin manufacturing, testing every board, and getting Prunt Board 3 into backers hands as soon as possible.

This week, the Teardown Sessions' Helen Leigh goes on a field trip to the Cyber City Circuits PnP electronics assembly line and chats with Joey Castillo, who is working with the CCC folks to make his open hardware Sensor Watch project. Joey's project, an open hardware smart watch, re-uses a classic, and ubiquitous, Casio LCD wristwatch and is launching on Crowd Supply soon.

Welcome to our first update in 2024 for Discovery Dish. We hope everyone has had a great holiday season! Things are moving slowly but steadily towards the final product. Due to the looming Chinese New Year holidays, we don't expect much to be done before February in terms of production, but from March onwards we expect to see rapid progress. In the mean time while we wait for the factories to come back online, we are tweaking the prototypes, making a few improvements, and continually testing.

In this update, we'll go through the history of why we chose a capacitive touchwheel for Tangara, how the current design works, and what it can do, as well as some resources and tips for incorporating this kind of touchwheel into your own projects.

Project Update · Measuring (Tangara's) Audio Quality
0.010
In this week's update, I'll be talking about the thing you have to talk about if you've made an audio device: the design and quality of Tangara's audio output. I don't like just throwing out a bunch of very technical measurements and hoping people trust they're good, so I will also give a very brief introduction to audio quality measurement in general. I'll then go through a neat little hack you can do to Tangara's audio chain to improve compatibility with cheap, sensitive IEMs.
