This project began with a simple question: What if e-paper could be more open, faster, dynamic, and in the hands of every creator? I set out on this path because I felt the same frustrations many of you have shared: hours in front of screens, fatigue, distraction, and tools that demanded attention instead of supporting it. What I wanted was something closer to paper: calm, readable, and supportive. Thanks to your backing, support, and encouragement, that idea has become real. Together, we have crossed the finish line of this campaign and opened the door to what comes next. Read the full update.
We’ve met and exceeded our funding goal. We're now 128% funded! This milestone is the result of so many contributions: every backer, every share, every question, and every bit of feedback helped get us here. Thank you for believing in us and helping push this project forward. Read the full update.
In this update, we share some of the work we’ve been doing to simplify development for the Modos Paper Monitor. Built into the driver board is a USB host that allows you to perform many operations, beyond simply pushing pixels. To simplify access to these extra features, we’re building an SDK that can be used in Python, Rust, and C. Along with options for refreshing the entire screen and portions of the screen, the first version of the SDK will also allow you to set different update modes for different areas of the screen. For instance, if you’re using a code editor, you can set the code pane to the “typing” mode to get the fastest, cleanest experience for editing code, while leaving the rest of the screen in the “browsing” mode to get high-quality grays for UI and navigation... Glider is the core of the Modos Paper Dev Kit. It's an open-source, e-ink display controller board designed to enable low-latency, high-refresh e-paper displays. Unlike typical e-ink solutions, Glider focuses on reducing latency to make e-ink viable for interactive applications like coding, writing, and lightweight real-time use. Read the full update.
In last week’s update, we set the goal of reaching 65%. We’ve not only crossed that milestone but are now 70% funded, with more than 100 backers! Every pledge, share, and suggestion is helping to shape this project and push it forward. This update announces our decision to include a Glider Mega Adapter with every kit, so you can use your Modos controller with a huge variety of e-paper panels. It also delves into some of what we've been covering on our livestreams. Read the full update.
After three years of development, the first week of our campaign launch has been encouraging: 56% funded with 79 backers on board! To every backer and to everyone who has shared the project, asked questions, or offered feedback, THANK YOU. Read the full update.
After years of development, the moment has arrived! The Modos Developer Kit campaign launches today on Crowd Supply, making high-performance open e-paper technology accessible to everyone. Like many of you, I spent over 12 hours a day in front of screens, feeling drained and distracted. The digital tools I relied on demanded attention rather than supporting my well-being. I wanted something different: a space free from eyestrain and noise where I could focus. I quickly realized I wasn't alone. From writers to engineers, digital minimalists to people with visual impairments, professionals across fields shared the same frustrations: constant distraction, headaches, and fatigue. What we all wanted were tools that worked with us, not against us. That's when I began exploring electrophoretic displays... Read the full update.
