When designing Novena, we had to balance budget against hackability. Plastic parts are cheap to produce, but the tools to mold them are very expensive and difficult to modify. Injection mold tooling cost for a conventional clamshell (two-body) laptop runs upwards of $250,000. Project Update · Getting Closer
0.020
The chip shortage is still in full swing, and vendors continue to push out part delivery schedules into 2022. But we have some good news - We're almost ready to build the first 200 early bird Glasgows. We know that a lot of you are in the industry and have connections to contract manufacturers. So if you or your CM happen to have some TPS73101DBVT or TLV73312PQRVRQ1 from a previous project sitting somewhere on a shelf and are willing to sell them to us, it would be a HUGE help to push the project towards the finishing line. In this update we also review the status of the enclosures, show the RAM-Pak Add-in, and go into much more detail about the progression of part sourcing for Glasgow. Please read on for more!
