BlueIO832 Mini and the free BlueIOWizard mobile app represent the heart of the I-SYST BlueIO ecosystem. Together, they provide an open-source Bluetooth kit that is perfect for applications in the education sector. With BlueIO832 Mini, you can learn about microcontrollers and other electronic components without needing to write complex firmware, experiment with sensors and other devices without writing any code, and take your idea from proof of concept to product design in record time.

BlueIO832 Mini Demo

BlueIO832 Mini and BlueIOWizard function as a Bluetooth data bridge and data terminal, respectively. This versatile, Internet-of-Thing (IoT) framework allows you to communicate with electronic devices—through an easy, plug-and-play interface—using your smartphone or some other mobile device. Simply connect a sensor to BlueIO, select the sensor on the app, and let them talk. After connecting to the target device through your preferred serial interface, BlueIO832 Mini will stream data on that physical interface to the BlueIO mobile app over Bluetooth® 5.

Built-In, App-Configurable Features

BlueIO832 Mini provides four built-in app-configurable data communication features:

Serial-interface bridge

  1. Connect BlueIO832 Mini to the serial interface (UART, I²C, or SPI) of a target device.
  2. Pair BlueIO832 Mini with the BlueIO mobile app on your device.
  3. Configure the serial interface settings in the BlueIO mobile app.
  4. Use the BlueIO mobile app to send and receive data on this interface.

GPIO functions

  1. Use the BlueIO mobile app to configure the pins of BlueIO832 Mini as GPIO for sending and receiving signals to and from target devices.
  2. Pair BlueIO832 Mini with the BlueIO mobile app on your mobile device.
  3. Use the BlueIO mobile app to send and receive signals to and from the GPIO pin(s).

Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC)

  1. Use BlueIO832 Mini to convert up to two analog signals to digital signals.
  2. Pair BlueIO832 Mini with the BlueIO mobile app on your mobile device.
  3. Use the BlueIO mobile app to monitor the converted digital signals.

NFC tag: BlueIO832 Mini can be used as an NFC tag once a Nordic®-compatible NFC antenna is plugged into the NFC connector.

Developing Your Own Firmware

While you can use BlueIO832 Mini as an embedded IoT kit to develop your own firmware using the Nordic® SDK, we recommend you use our open-source library IOsonata, which is built on top of the Nordic® SDK. IOsonata makes it easier and faster to develop firmware for BlueIO832 Mini and other Nordic® nRF52x SoC-based embedded systems.

Support & Documentation

Our open source library allows users to quickly develop custom firmware. Example firmware source code is available for various use cases. Demo App source code provided for Android, iOS, and MacOS. Schematics are available.

Manufacturing Plan

We are working with a manufacturing partner in South Korea—the same CM that produced the Blyst modules for our previous Crowd Supply campaign. We have already manufactured over 200 units and have components in stock for many more.

Fulfillment & Logistics

After our production run is complete, we will box everything up and send it along to Crowd Supply’s fulfillment partner, Mouser Electronics, who will handle distribution to backers worldwide. You can learn more about Crowd Supply’s fulfillment service under Ordering, Paying, and Shipping in their guide.

Risks & Challenges

Risks to this project are minimal. We have an established relationship with our CM, all hardware has been fully tested, all components are in stock, and we’ve already begun manufacturing production units.
