Project Update · Meetups, New Production and Xous 0.9.13
0.020
Since our last release we've run a new production lot, added a bunch of new features, bug fixes and infrastructure improvements.

Project Update · Knee-deep in production
0.020
Since our last update, we’ve sent out mini batches 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, which is, yet again, the highest volume batch we’ve produced so far, but not as high as we aim for. We had to allow a week of vacation for our staff in the middle of summer. Without the vacation, we’d have likely hit our target volume, so the ramp-up is still not over. Apart from manufacturing, Agent and the firmware keep advancing, and some major progress is expected soon.

Project Update · Testing and Ordering

The past couple weeks has been consumed with getting every last detail ironed over. Testing hardware and improving software has taken up most of that time.

We’ve had a chance to use the devices more and we’ve discovered that the device can stall under certain circumstances: The stalls occur when the USB power line is nosier than the device can handle, which seems to happen mostly on desktops and high-powered laptops when the system load is high (such as when playing a 3D game) or when exiting sleep mode. This causes either the USB interface or the eMMC chip to stall and the device needs to be removed and reinserted to recover. The good news is that the problem is most likely to occur when the device is idle, so there is very little risk of data loss. The bad news is that on some systems you might want to unplug the device when you’re not using it in order to avoid stalls. If you find yourself encountering this problem often we will offer to exchange your device for a replacement once we have a solution.

Backer Jonathan Lister used the Anavi Light Controller to make a nifty "alarm clock" that simulates a natural sunrise. Read the full update to find out how he did it.

Project Update · Thank You and Tutorial on Using AWS IOT
0.020
First, a big thank you for making the Hornbill Campaign a success. We should now be able to kick off manufacturing the first batch of 100 Hornbill ESP32 Dev boards. There is still a lot of effort required to write firmware, example codes, libraries for Arduino, and App Templates for the hardware to be really useful. We will announce a set of stretch goals in the next update, after carefully defining the work that we will be doing for the days to come.

Project Update · AWS IOT Arduino Library for ESP32

In the first update, we had seen setting up AWS IOT account and had used the bare-metal 'C' on ESP32 to securely communicate with the cloud service. Today, I am happy to announce an Arduino library to achieve the same.

Project Update · Production Start Delays and New IMUs
0.020
Hi everyone! As you have likely noticed, things often don't go as planned. In our previous update, as well as an update before this, we planned that new review sets would be shipped to reviewers and developers in April, and first batch would be shipped to backers somewhere mid-summer. It's end of July and none of this has happened yet; so let's break down why, what has been done, and what are the next steps in fulfilling the SlimeVR campaign.

MNT Reform
This update walks through the boot image build process (including a demo video), brushes on hardware-level, blobless H.264 decoding, points to a Libre Lounge podcast we were recently featured in, and announces an AMA on June 3rd at 1pm Pacific.

Work in progress assembly jig for SlimeVR final assembly. We're making many more of these to scale the production.

Mixtile Blade 3 is a cluster-oriented single board computer (SBC). It's tiny, it's powerful, and, most importantly, it has super-fast interfaces with convenient connectors to facilitate clustering. It supports four different cluster topologies, each of which is covered below. This update also includes a short list of answers to questions from the community.
